SEOUL, April 18 (Yonhap) -- The Cheong Wa Dae Foundation announced Thursday that it will host a nighttime open-house event titled "Night Opening at Cheong Wa Dae" from May 1 to 6, offering visitors a unique after-dark experience at the former presidential compound.

During the event period, the main building of Cheong Wa Dae will be illuminated with “Cheongwadancheong” – lighting inspired by traditional Korean patterns. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the interactive “Path of Light,” where lights respond to movement, and other immersive displays such as “Forest of Light” and “Garden of Light,” combining music and lighting to create tranquil nighttime ambiance.

The event runs daily from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In addition, a series of live performances including jazz, Korean traditional music, and band concerts will be held at the site of the former main building. Up to 4,000 visitors may attend the concerts each day, with entry permitted in two sessions at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Admission is free, and reservations can be made through the official website (https://www.opencheongwadae.kr).

On May 5, Children’s Day, the foundation will host “Cheong Wa Dae Children’s World,” a family-friendly program featuring a variety of performances and hands-on activities. Highlights include the children’s musical “Hangeul Warrior Aiya” and a special guided tour program titled “Springtime Cheong Wa Dae: Dreaming History Playground.”

A foundation official said, “This is a rare opportunity for the public to experience the serene beauty of Cheong Wa Dae at night,” adding, “We hope this event, especially with the Children’s Day celebration, will be remembered as a unique cultural festival exclusive to Cheong Wa Dae.”
