SEOUL, July 24 (Yonhap) -- Actor Cho Jin-woong, known for his previous roles as a police officer, returns as a detective in Disney+'s upcoming drama "No Way Out: The Roulette."

At the production presentation held at Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 24th, Cho shared his thoughts on his latest role, stating, "People say I'm playing a police officer again, but this time, I truly became the detective. I lived as a police officer for a while."

Cho Jin-woong, who previously portrayed detectives in dramas and films like "Signal," "The Policeman's Lineage," and "Believer," revealed, "For this project, I lived with the Violent Crime Division 6 team at Seodaemun Police Station for a month and a half."

He recounted, "One of the detectives I lived with was debating whether to buy an expensive or cheap security window because his house had been broken into. It made me realize that police officers are just people too. The detective I play, Baek Joong-sik, is exactly like that."

"No Way Out" is a mystery thriller depicting a scenario where a heinous criminal's release from prison leads to a 20 billion won bounty, inciting a public contract killing. Cho Jin-woong takes on the role of Baek Joong-sik, a detective tasked with protecting the notorious criminal from bounty-seeking citizens.

Originally, the role was to be played by actor Lee Sun-kyun, who had to withdraw due to drug allegations. Cho Jin-woong stepped in just before filming began. He remarked, "The short preparation time was no excuse for me, so I worked even harder on the project." He emphasized, "It was a time that solidified my convictions and determination."

Jo noted, "There are areas where the law doesn't provide resolution. This drama deals with those parts coldly and sharply. It's a piece that will spark discussions."

Yoo Jae-myung, who plays the infamous criminal Kim Gook-ho, explained, "Kim Gook-ho gets embroiled in a murder-for-hire plot immediately upon his release and struggles desperately to survive."

Yeom Jung-ah plays An Myung-ja, the mayor of Hosanshi, who tries to prolong her political career by using Kim Gook-ho. She commented, "This is my first time playing a politician. I'm looking forward to the international reaction as I showcase a new character in this work."

The drama also features Taiwanese star Greg Hsu (Hsu Kuang-han), Kim Mu-yeol, Lee Kwang-soo, and Kim Sung-chul. Greg Hsu plays a contract killer known as Mr. Smile, Kim Mu-yeol portrays Kim Gook-ho's legal representative Lee Sang-bong, Lee Kwang-soo plays Yoon Chang-jae, a butcher out to claim the bounty, and Kim Sung-chul takes on the role of Sung Joon-woo, a young pastor leading numerous followers.

"No Way Out" will be available on Disney+ and U+ Mobile TV starting from the 31st.
