Eric Oh's new animation ‘Namoo’ nominated for Oscar

SEOUL, Dec.22 (Yonhap) -- Korean-American director Eric Oh's new animation was nominated for the U.S. Academy Awards.

According to the list of preliminary candidates for the 94th Academy Awards released by the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) on Dec.21 (local time), director Oh's "Namoo" was named in the Animated Short Film category.

This work is a virtual reality (VR) animation that director Oh collaborated with Baobab Studios, and has been well received at various film festivals since it was first unveiled at the Sundance Film Festival.

This is the second time director Oh has been nominated for the Academy Awards. Earlier at the 93rd awards ceremony, he was nominated as a preliminary candidate followed by a shortlist with “Opera,” but failed to win the award.

"Namoo" will compete with 14 works, including "Bad Seeds," "Only a Child" and "Robin Robin," for the shortlist qualification.

A vote will be held from Jan.27 to Feb.1 next year to determine the final candidate, and the shortlist will be announced on Feb.8. The awards ceremony will be held on Mar.27.
