SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- Actor Yoo Ah-in, whose suspended sentence for habitual use of illegal drugs was finalized, is set to make a fresh start with entertainment agency Billionz.

 

Billionz announced Friday on social media that it had signed an exclusive contract with Yoo.

 

"We are fully aware of the concerns surrounding Yoo Ah-in's past case and his recent return to activities," the agency said. "Before signing the contract, we had candid conversations with Yoo on multiple occasions over an extended period, and deeply considered the responsibility and attitude required for him to resume his career as an actor, as well as the direction he should take going forward."

 

The agency said Yoo's most important consideration in signing with Billionz was finding "a sincere partner" who would work with him through the difficult and cautious process of seeking forgiveness and understanding from the public and rebuilding trust, rather than simply providing favorable contract terms or superficial support for a return to activities.

 

"We will take a long-term approach, rather than rushing, so that he can fulfill the responsibilities he must bear as an actor and build entirely new trust," Billionz said.

 

The agency also said it would not "take the past lightly or try to rush past it," adding that it would take current concerns seriously, humbly listen to criticism from the public and media, and approach necessary communication with humility.

 

"We will work carefully and sincerely so that the actor's fundamental commitment to his work and acting can be conveyed authentically through his actions going forward," it said.

 

Yoo was indicted in 2023 on charges of habitual use of illegal drugs. Last year, the Supreme Court finalized the lower court ruling sentencing him to one year in prison, suspended for two years, and a 2 million won (US$1,400) fine.

 

He recently announced his return to the big screen after being cast in director Jang Jae-hyun's upcoming mystery occult film "Vampir."

 

Billionz represents actors including Son Hyun-joo, Lee Jun-young, Jung Sung-il and Jo Bo-ah.
