‘My Daughter is a Zombie’ surpasses 2.5 million viewers, set to top weekend box office again

SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Yonhap) -- Comedy film “My Daughter is a Zombie,” starring Cho Jung-seok, is expected to maintain its box office lead into its second weekend.

 

According to the Korean Film Council’s computerized box office data on Friday, “My Daughter is a Zombie” drew about 135,000 moviegoers the previous day, capturing 44.5 percent of total sales to rank No. 1 at the box office.

 

The film follows the story of Jung-hwan (played by Cho), a wild animal trainer who struggles to protect his daughter Soo-ah (Choi Yu-ri) after she becomes a zombie. Since its release on July 30, the movie has attracted more than 2.5 million viewers.

 

Ranking second was the Brad Pitt-led racing film “F1: The Movie,” which continues to show strong legs at the box office, attracting 50,000 viewers (19.2 percent sales share) on the day. The “John Wick” spin-off “Ballerina,” released on Aug. 6, came in third with about 25,000 viewers (8.7 percent sales share).

 

As of 9 a.m. the same day, advance ticket sales showed the upcoming “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle,” set to open on Aug. 22, leading with a 31.0 percent share (about 220,000 advance tickets sold).

 

Among films currently screening, “My Daughter is a Zombie” held the top spot with a 21.1 percent booking rate (about 155,000 advance tickets).
