Designer Kim Ri-eul of BTS Hanbok Suits Passes Away at 32

SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) -- Designer Kim Ri-eul has passed away at the age of 32, according to vulnacular reports citing family sources. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

 

Born in 1993, Kim, whose real name is Kim Jong-won, was known for his unique hanbok suit designs, which sought to introduce Korean culture to the world. 

 

In 2016, he launched his brand Rieul and operated it successfully. In September 2020, he gained international attention for creating hanbok suits for the global K-pop sensation BTS. The suits were worn by BTS during a performance at Gyeongbokgung Palace’s Geunjeongjeon, drawing widespread attention.

 

Kim Ri-eul appeared on Arirang TV's The Globalist on Jan. 7, where he spoke about his dream of bridging traditional and modern elements to create a Korean luxury brand. He expressed his ambition to establish his brand as a representative of Korea on the global stage.
