2025 World Webtoon Festival to Open in Seoul on Oct. 19

SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency announced Monday that the “2025 World Webtoon Festival” will be held from Oct. 19 to 22 at Lotte Town in Jamsil, southeastern Seoul.

 

The four-day event aims to promote South Korea’s status as the birthplace of webtoons and to boost pride among industry professionals. The closing ceremony, the “2025 World Webtoon Festival Awards,” will take place on Oct. 22 at Lotte Cinema World Tower.

 

A special exhibition titled “The Chronicle of Webtoons,” composed of six sections, will be showcased at the Lotte World Ice Rink. Other programs include screenings of webtoon-based animations such as “Maru’s Puppy” and “Yonghan Girl,” live drawing sessions, author signings, and “Voice Actor Nam Do-hyung’s Live Dubbing Show.” Exhibitions by Naver Webtoon, Netmarble, and Wacom will also be featured.

 

Story concerts featuring creators of works adapted from webtoons, including “Terror Man,” “Shark,” and “Itaewon Class,” will be held at Lotte Cinema World Tower. Screenings of “Acorn Culture Center,” an animation based on a webtoon, and the awards ceremony for the “University Cartoon and Webtoon Contest” are also planned.

 

Admission is free and open to the public. Visitors can pre-register at the festival’s official website (www.wefe.kr

Ahead of the main event, a webtoon pop-up store will operate from Oct. 16 to 26 at Lotte World Mall, featuring 12 companies showcasing and selling products based on webtoon intellectual property.

 

At the “World Webtoon Awards” ceremony on Oct. 22, 10 main prizes, including the Grand Prize and Jury Chairman’s Award, will be presented. This year’s nominees include 26 works such as “The Uncanny Counter,” “Return of the Mad Demon,” and “The Possessed.”

 

A newly introduced “Readers’ Choice Award” will be given to the most popular work based on votes cast from Sept. 1 to Oct. 21. Details are available on the official websites (www.wefe.kr
