SEOUL, May 11 (Yonhap) -- Pianist Yuja Wang (35) who gained worldwide popularity for her unique performance and appearance, will hold her first recital in Korea next month at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall.
Yuja Wang will meet the Korean audience on June 19 at Seoul Arts Center with songs from Beethoven, Schonberg, Albeniz, and Kapustin, according to the production company, Mast Media.
Wang planned her first recital in Korea in December 2020 but canceled the schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wang is considered one of the best pianists from Beijing with Yundi Li and Lang Lang.
Born into a family of musicians in Beijing, Wang began learning piano in China as a child, and later studied in Canada and the United States, where she studied at the Curtis Institute of Music under Gary Graffman.
Wang rose to stardom after performing with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Charles Dutoit in 2007, when she filled the giant shoes of piano legend Martha Argerich.
Wang’s recording of Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle was nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Classical Instrumental Solo” category and the pianist was also named Musical America’s Artist of the Year in 2017.
