SEOUL, June 19 (Yonhap) -- Boryeong Naengpung Yokjang, one of the representative tourist destinations in Boryeong, where cold wind from an abandoned mine hundreds of meters underground is reopening after three years.

Boryeong City announced on Friday that it will be operating a cold wind bath from June 27 till August 19.

Boryeong Naengpung Yokjang was closed in 2020 and 2021 because of COVID-19.

In order to reopen the Boryeong Naengpung Yokjang, the city installed a thermal imaging camera to check the temperature of visitors after completing repairs of internal and external facilities such as a pergola, water supply, and lighting.

Boryeong Naengpung Yokjang, located in Uipyeong-ri, Cheongmyeon, maintains a temperature of 10 to 15 degrees throughout the year due to the convection phenomenon in which the cold air from deep inside the abandoned mine exchange places with the hot air from the outside.

Right next to it is a direct market for agricultural specialties that sells white mushrooms grown using the cold wind from the abandoned mine at an affordable price along with Bindaetteok (mung bean pancake) and Hoemuchim using these mushrooms.
