SEOUL, August 3 (Yonhap) -- The Busan City Tour, which was hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis, is gaining popularity again.
Busan Tourism Organization is attempting various transformations, like combining city tours and experiential events to attract domestic and foreign tourists.
According to the Busan Tourism Organization on Wednesday, the number of Busan City Tour users was 163,089 in 2019, but sharply decreased to 50,091 in 2020 and 49,856 in 2021 when the spread of COVID-19 began.
However, today, with measures of COVID-19 being implemented, the number of Busan City Tour users are increasing back to 68,017 people.
Since last May, the number of users has been between 14,000 and 16,000 every month, and is recovering back to its pre-COVID-19 era.
With the demand for tourism in the Busan region increasing after having the quarantine measures eased to restore daily life, the Busan Tourism Organization is accelerating the revitalization of Busan City Tour.
The Blue Line (Haeundae - Osiri - Kijang Yonggungsa) course, which was paused due to COVID-19, was resumed from May 25.
The Busan Tourism Organization has also introduced a night view tour product linking the city tour with KTX, and a package product that combines city tour with cruise ships and yachts.
From August 12, the horror experience event that will blow away the sweltering summer has been combined with the Busan City Tour Red Line (Busan Station~Haeundae) and Green Line (Busan Station~Taejongdae) night view programs.
This event, which is held four times every Friday, is characterized by providing a horror experience to tourists on the city tour bus.
In September, an event will be held to select 20 tourists traveling with 20 dogs (abandoned dogs) on a city tour double-decker bus for a lecture on the management of dogs.
To expand the Busan City Tour course, the Busan Tourism Organization is planning to develop the Seobu Mountain tour course (Songdo to Dadaepo) and start its operation from the end of September or October.
"Although COVID-19 is re-spreading, we are doing everything we can to strengthen quarantine measures, such as installing automatic, unmanned quarantine devices in buses for the safety of the passengers," an official from the Busan Tourism Organization said. "We plan to develop various experiential experiments so that city tours can play a role in attracting domestic and foreign tourists."
