CANNES, France, May 20 (Yonhap) -- Acclaimed director Park Chan-wook's upcoming film, known to be a Western, was introduced to the global film industry for the first time through the Cannes Film Festival's film market.

An unreleased poster for Park's new movie, "The Brigands of Rattlecreek," was displayed at the booth of international sales company 193 participating in the 79th Cannes International Film Festival film market on Tuesday (local time).

The poster featured the silhouettes of three men standing like protagonists from a classic Western against a red background resembling the evening sky.

As the poster has not yet been officially unveiled, representatives at 193 strictly prohibited photography.

"Apart from buyers, we cannot provide information about the film to the press," a 193 official said. "Likewise, the poster is not being disclosed at this stage."

The 193 booth is being operated in a separate building slightly away from the main film market venue where other sales companies are gathered.

Park's next feature, "The Brigands of Rattlecreek," is reportedly a violent Western set during the frontier era and centered on revenge and retribution.

Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, along with Pedro Pascal, Austin Butler and Chinese actress Tang Wei, has been confirmed for the cast.

"The Brigands of Rattlecreek" was written by American filmmaker Craig Zahler, with Park directing and adapting the screenplay.

Producer Bradley Fischer joined the project as a co-producer, and the production budget is estimated to exceed US$60 million.

While the Cannes Film Festival itself is recognized as one of the world's most prestigious film events, its accompanying film market is also regarded as the film industry's largest marketplace, attracting more than 12,000 industry professionals annually.

This year, around 16,000 film industry figures expressed interest in participating in the film market, where some 4,000 titles are being presented to buyers.

South Korean companies including Showbox, Plus M Entertainment, CJ ENM, Finecut and Contents Panda are also participating to pursue overseas sales.

The film market runs through Wednesday in local time, three days before the festival closes.
