SEOUL, July 21 (Yonhap) -- Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation (KOMSCO) announced on Thursday that it has released a banknote-type commemorative medal with theme of the national treasure, Gilt-bronze Pensive Maitreya Bodhisattva (National Treasure No.83).


On the front of the commemorative medal, the the three-dimensional image of the Pensive Bodhisattva is shown, while on the back, the warm smile of the Gilt-bronze Pensive Maitreya Bodhisattva is depicted.

This is the second commemorative medal jointly planned by KOMSCO and the National Museum of Korea following the commemorate medal of the Gilt-bronze Pensive Maitreya Bodhisattva (National Treasure No.78).

200 gold medals and 2,000 silver medals, thus 2,200 medlas were produced in total.

"It is very meaning to produce the commemorative medal of the national treasure, Gilt-bronze Pensive Maitreya Bodhisattva along with the National Museum of Korea," said Bhan Jang-sik, president of KOMSCO.

Medals will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis from Thursday till August 5 of next month at the online store of KOMSCO, Hwadong Co., Ltd., and The Hyundai.com.
