SEOUL, July 27 (Yonhap) -- Gyeongnam Miryang City announced on Wednesday that it will be building the Yeongnam Branch of the National Intangible Heritage Center and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Education Center on the site of the Miryang Branch of the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office and the Miryang Branch of the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office in Sammun-dong.

The Miryang Branch of the Changwon District Court and the Miryang Branch of the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office built a new building at Naei-dong and moved in 2004.

The city of Miryang purchased the site of the Sammun-dong Court and Prosecutors' Office and a nearby private land to build the Yeongnam Branch of the National Intangible Heritage Center and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education Center.

With Miryang city purchasing the site from 2019, it has recently purchased up to 80%.

The remaining 20% of the site will be purchased by the end of 2023 when the construction of the Yeongnam Branch of the National Intangible Heritage Center and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education Center begins.

The Yeongnam Branch of the National Intangible Heritage Center and the Cultural Heritage Transmission Education Center faces Yeongnamnu, the representative cultural heritage and treasure of Miryang City, across the Miryang River that flows through the city.

When the two institutions open, the city of Miryang expects it to play a role as a center for regional cultural development along with Yeongnamnu and the Miryanggang outdoor performance hall.

The National Intangible Heritage Center, which systematically transmits and preserves intangible heritage, is an institution under the Cultural Heritage Administration in Jeonju, North Jeolla province.

Last year, the Cultural Heritage Administration decided to establish the Yeongnam branch of the National Intangible Heritage Center in Miryang.

The Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education Center is an institution that systematically educates the intangible cultural heritage delivered to the city of Miryang, including the Miryang Baekjung Nori and the Miryang Beopheungsangwon Nori.
