MUJU, Oct. 5 (Yonhap) -- Afghan evacuees, who were airlifted to South Korea in August in order to flee their war-torn country, will be learning the national sport of Korea.

According to the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation (TPF) and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Tuesday, starting from Oct. 6, taekwondo will be taught to children and teenagers under the age of 18 at the National Human Resources Development Institute in Jincheon.

A total of seven taekwondo lessons, which focus on the basic techniques of attack, defense, and exercises, will be held until Oct. 20.

Instructors from the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation and volunteers will guide children to learn taekwondo while taking appropriate measures according to health authorities' infection control guidelines.

The foundation will also provide taekwondo equipment, including uniforms, to Afghan children and teenagers.

Oh Eung-hwan, TPF chairman, said, "We expect these taekwondo exercises to help Afghan children and teenagers relieve their stress and give them some peace of mind."
