'Hansan: Rising Dragon' surpasses 2 million viewers in five days

SEOUL, July 31 (Yonhap) -- S.Korean movie “Hansan : Rising Dragon,” starring Park Hae-il and Byun Yo-han, surpassed 2 million cumulative audiences on Sunday, the fifth day of its release, according to its distribution company Lotte Entertainment.

“Hansan,” which was released on July 27, recorded a cumulative audience of 1 million on Saturday morning, and mobilized an additional 1 million in a day.

“Hansan: Rising Dragon” is the second movie about admiral Yi out of three that director Kim Han-min planned. It depicts the the Battle of Hansan in the summer of 1592, in which the Joseon naval forces led by Admiral Yi Sun-sin defeated the Japanese forces.

The aerial action “Top Gun: Maverick” (Top Gun 2), starring Tom Cruise, surpassed 7 million cumulative audience on the same day.

“Top Gun 2,” which has been six weeks since it has been out, still maintains third place at the box office and is close to “Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol” (7.57 million viewers), the best film starred by Tom Cruise.
