SEOUL, Feb. 2 (Yonhap) -- The three members of the South Korean boy band Stray Kids – Han, Bang Chan, and Changbin – have been appointed as the 2023 regular members of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA), the South Korean non-profit copyright collective for musical works.
47,000 composers and lyricists have been registered as regular members of the KOMCA as of Jan. 22, the largest music copyright collective in Korea announced Thursday. The Association selects only 22 associate members in the field of popular music and 3 from the field of non-popular music (authentic, Korean traditional music, children’s songs, and religion) to be promoted to regular members annually.
Choi Jung-hoon from the South Korean rock band Jannabi, MinGtion (Kim Min-ji), and 24 (Seo Jung-hoon) also made it to the list of regular members.
Jannabi’s Choi Jung-hoon participated in composing, writing the lyrics, arranging, and performing a slew of hit songs including “for lovers who hesitate” and “Summer.”
MinGtion made herself known as the composer of Red Velvet’s hit song “Queendom” and Taeyeon’s “All About You.”
Meanwhile, Han, Bang Chan, and Changbin placed themselves on the Association’s list of regular members not only as members of a representative 4th generation K-pop group but also as members of the group’s own production team “3RACHA”; these three participated in producing Stray Kids’ EPs “ODDINARY” and “MAXIDENT,” the two mega-hit albums that topped the Billboard “Hot 200” in 2022.
“Congratulations on the promotion of young artists who have demonstrated their multi-faceted musical capabilities by producing K-pop that is enjoyed by people worldwide,” said Choo Ga-yeol, the chairman of the KOMCA. “The Association will also work harder to protect the rights and interests of our musicians.”
