SEOUL, May 22 (Yonhap) --The drama “Tomorrow,” which depicts the story of the grim reapers trying to stop those who want to take their own lives, has ended with a disappointing rating of 2.8%.
According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings research company, on the 22nd, the final episode of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama “Tomorrow”, which aired at 9:55 pm the day before, recorded a rating of 2.8%. This is less than half of the first episode's rating, 7.6%.
In the final episode, Koo Ryeon (Kim Hee-seon) gets in danger of going to hell as she violates the rules of the underworld to save Cho-hui (Kim Si-eun).
Joong-gil (Lee Soo-hyuk), who has been clashing with Koo-Ryeon finds out that he and Koo-Ryeon had been married in their previous life, and helps Koo-ryeon in crisis, resolving their old feelings.
“Tomorrow,” a drama based on a Naver webtoon of the same name, gained attention as Kim Hee-sun dyed her hair pink and transformed into the main character from the webtoon.
In each episode, it earned the sympathy of the people by portraying the victims of bullying that still remain traumatized, those who fail the civil service exam despite trying their best, an anorexia patient who suffered from an eating disorder due to the trauma of their appearance and many more.
Additionally, through Koo-ryeon’s past life, it showed the tragic story of a woman who chose to end her life as she was pointed as the “Hwanhwangnyeo (women who were taken to the Qing Dynasty but were called out as those who gave up on their own bodies)” when she came back to her hometown after she was taken away by a soldier of the Qing dynasty. Like this, it contains historical stories, including the soldiers of the Korean wars and the victims of comfort women in the Japanese military by going back and forth between the past and the reality.
It is evaluated that the performances of the actors were relatively stable. While Kim Hee-sun led the story with her charisma, Kim Hae-sook, who played the Jade Emperor also stood out.
As much as it was based on a fantasy webtoon, there were many scenes that had to go into a person’s memory or transcend time and space. Although it was portrayed well, it was hard to secure popularity.
