SEOUL, Sept. 11 (Yonhap) -- COSMAX said Friday that its stick-type functional cosmetic product for wrinkle improvement using bakuchiol has received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
Bakuchiol is a natural antioxidant extracted from the seeds and leaves of babchi, an Indian medicinal herb. It is known for having collagen-synthesis effects similar to those of retinol, a leading anti-aging ingredient.
Unlike retinol, which is vulnerable to light and ultraviolet rays and is therefore mainly used in the evening, bakuchiol has excellent heat and light stability, allowing it to be used during the day as well.
COSMAX developed a high-precision wax mesh structure and incorporated a high concentration of bakuchiol to prevent the formulation from collapsing.
As a result, the company said it succeeded in achieving an optimal application texture that maintains a firm shape but melts smoothly when it comes into contact with the skin.
COSMAX plans to expand its proposals for high-performance stick-type cosmetics to global clients and aims to launch the product as early as this year.
"We will accelerate our push into global markets with advanced technologies that overcome formulation limitations while meeting global consumers' demand for high-performance beauty products," a COSMAX official said.
