SEOUL, Jan. 30 (Yonhap) -- Korean language education web drama series starring a K-pop star has been released on a South Korean online streaming service, Wavve.

The King Sejong Institute Foundation, a public institution by which the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism manages the overseas Korean language education and distribution of Korean culture, announced on Monday that the Foundation has dropped the popular web drama series “Idol in My Living Room,” starring Pentagon’s Yeo One and the King Sejong Institute’s outstanding student Joy.

Produced by Wonderwall Friends and directed by Seo Kyung-guk, the web series is a youth melodrama that illustrates the daily life of Yeo One and Joy who happen to live together under the same roof. It depicts the fling and dating of a young couple of the MZ generation, which would help foreign Korean learners easily sympathize with the characters while paying attention to South Korean culture.

Multiple Korean cultures are introduced throughout the play, including the tourist attractions in Seoul that appear in the background of the drama along with the original soundtrack (OST) composed of K-pop.

For the sake of foreigners who are unfamiliar with the Korean language, there will be subtitles provided in 10 languages, including English, French, and Spanish.

Produced in Oct. 2022 and released on the Foundation’s official YouTube channel, the drama currently has garnered an average of 270,000 views for each episode. The Foundation edited the web series into a 92-minute episode so that it can attract more viewers to watch at home and abroad. The episode was released on Wavve on Jan. 27.

Lee Hae-young, the chairman of the King Sejong Institute Foundation, said, “We hope that more foreigners would get a taste of the Korean language and culture, and feel the joy of learning the language and culture outside of the classroom via the web series available on online streaming service.”
