SEOUL, June 2 (Yonhap) – K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, which has been performing as goodwill ambassadors for the 26th U.N. Climate Change Conference(COP26), once again called on world leaders to gather to focus on the climate crisis.

BLACKPINK said in a video uploaded on its official YouTube channel on Thursday, "We all saw documentaries about the issues, spoke to others, and actually witnessed the changes ourselves, leading to a greater understanding of the severity of the situation.”

It added, "After learning about how the Earth and our future is being threatened by climate change, we were worried and scared about what will happen next.”

The group also mentioned, "We were still at a learning stage but then we were given an opportunity to listen, watch and learn firsthand, for which we are very grateful.”

BLACKPINK was appointed as ambassadors for COP 26 in September, 2021, and has encouraged its fans to take climate action.

The video was filmed during the Platinum Jubilee, which marks Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years of service, at the British Embassy Seoul on May 26.

The group attended the event and delivered a speech.

Colin Crooks, British Ambassador to Korea, said, “As COP25 Advocates, BLACKPINK has raised awareness on climate change issues to their fans all over the world and highlighted the need for immediate action.”

The agency YG Entertainment introduced, “We have been using eco-friendly materials when producing albums or MDs for sustainable K-pop since last year,” adding, “We are even checking biodegradable plastic samples made of corn starch.”
