SEOUL March 24 (Yonhap) -- "I think I'll be called Son Myung-oh for the next few years. Being part of‘ ‘The Glory’ is an honor for me, as the title addresses, however it's also a obstacle that I need to jump over."

In the South Korean Netflix's original series "The Glory," actor Kim Gun-woo showed a clear presence with just a few short scenes.

In the scene where antagonist Son Myung-oh tells Choi Hye-jung acted by Cha Joo-young "Let's go to a country of our own" while wearing clothes he stole in layers, brings laughter to the audience however in the scene where he holds Park Yeon-jin acted by Lim Ji-yeon's weakness and he threatens her, the audience is left with uneasy emotions.

Kim Gun-woo, who participated in an interview at a cafe in, Jongno district in Seoul on March 23, addressed, "I paid a lot of attention to the small details to express the character so that I can look like a bad bully who may appear in front of the audience from somewhere."

Actor continued on by stating, "If something that provides characteristics to a character is his or her lines throughout the series, in my opinion, small actions and movements are the ones which provides the character with uniqueness and color."

Moreover Kim Gun-woo addressed "I wanted to take advantage of the characteristics of a bully in by putting emphasis on small little details, such as drinking soju in a beer glass or scooping Kimchi with a spoon while eating Korean Soup and more. When I encountered Joo Yeo-jung acted by Lee Do-hyun, I completed the character by studying small details such as walking and sitting posture."

Son Myung-oh, who grew up in his grandfather's hands without his parents, has the lowest rank within the group of bullies.

He is a person who bullies under the direction of Park Yeon-jin and Jeon Jae-joon acted by Park Sung-hoon, and most of the physical and sexual abuse inflicted to the victims in school was done through Son Myung-oh.

Even after becoming an adult, Son Myung-oh lives as a boy who receives money from the gang after running errands, and he uses the money earned from such action on enjoying his life.

Kim Gun-woo addressed, "I wanted to make the character which has no power nor money to look as flamboyant as possible." adding, "Son Myung-oh tried to act more confidently because he had nothing."

Antagonist Son Myung-oh, who has been openly ignored for decades and has accumulated inferiority complex, easily falls into the scheme of Moon Dong-eun acted by Song Hye-kyo, who has risked everything to seek revenge on bullies, and in the end Son Myung-oh digs his own grave.

Kim Gun-woo said addressed, "The villain can express a lot of emotions, so by acting out his character one can feel cool and have fun with, however antagonist Son Myung-oh is a character who continues to suffer and destroys himself, so I didn't feel the same joy compare to when I was acting out other villains."

Kim Gun-woo, a senior theater major at the Korea National University of Arts, who debuted through the drama "Fight for My Way" in 2017.

His acting skills have been favorable since his debut film, however things have not been as easy as he thought.

S.Korean actor Kim Gun-woo recalled, "Before I met 'The Glory', I have failed multiple times to land a role for myself for a long time, failing several times as the final candidate for the role was harsh,” adding "I was so disappointed and skeptical that I even thought to myself, 'Should I continue acting?' also when I didn't have acting roles, I made a living off from receiving re-broadcasting fees which was equivalent to a pocket change, or performance fees that I had saved up, or in worst cases I borrowed money from the entertainment agency."

Continuing on actor addressed "Since I have lived such life, I don't get excited easily. After ‘The Glory,’ many people recognized me, and there were many suggestions for my next work. There are many external changes, but nothing has changed internally. I'm the same as before I participated in the production.”

When asked if he was worried that his image would solidify as an actor for antagonist, the actor addressed. "I have no such fear. I think the villain are an important role in leading the play, and I am confident that I will be able to change my image as much as I want with another roles that I will meet someday in the future.”
