SEOUL, Sep. 11 (Yonhap) -- Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur, who has injured his calf during the assembly for the national team, may not be able to play at Crystal Palace in the Premier League for England’s professional football.
Tottenham is scheduled to play against Crystal Palace for 4 rounds of the 2021-2022 EPL season at Selhurst Park in London, England at 8:30 p.m. (KST) on the 11th. Tottenham is currently No. 1 on the league with 3 consecutive victories.
The club has announced on their official website that head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has implied a few players’ absence, including Son.
During a pre-match press conference, Coach Santo mentioned informed troubles of the players who had been assembled for the national team for the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers.
Regarding Son’s condition, he said, “Sonny is not so well.”
Without further details about the injury, he repeated,” Let’s wait and see.”
“The doctors will make a proper diagnosis,” answered the head coach when questioned about the possibility of Son’s long-term break due to the injury.
Son joined the South Korean national team, who played 2 home-matches for the final Qatar World Cup Asian qualifiers, to run full-time for the first round against Iraq (0-0 tie) on the 2 September.
But after a training on the 6th he took an examination feeling discomfort on his right calf and found a sprained muscle. He was excluded from the entry for the second round against Lebanon (1-0 win) on the 7th.
The English media has reported that Son’s joining the Crystal Palace match is unclear delivering coach Santo’s words from the press conference.
London’s local media Football London has also predicted that Tottenham may have to play against Crystal Palace without Son.
Meanwhile coach Santo has announced that South American players Giovani Lo Celso, Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez, who played in the World Cup qualifiers for Argentina and Colombia respectively, will join the team on the 18th.
Those who have visited red list countries for the COVID-19 infection such as Argentina and Colombia must go into self-quarantine for 10 days when they are back in England.
The trio are known to be training in Croatia not entering England after the World Cup qualifiers to avoid the self-quarantine.
