SEOUL, June 1 (Yonhap) -- CJ Olive Young said Monday it will open its second U.S. store later this month at the Westfield Century City shopping mall in Los Angeles, following the successful launch of its first American outlet.
The new store, Olive Young Century City, will open in one of Los Angeles' premier shopping destinations, frequented by affluent consumers and international tourists.
The opening comes shortly after the K-beauty retailer launched its first U.S. brick-and-mortar store in Pasadena, California, on May 29.
While the Pasadena store is aimed at customers interested in K-culture and experiential shopping, the Century City location will target premium consumers and a broader global clientele, the company said.
The Pasadena store drew significant attention even before its official opening, with shoppers lining up a day in advance. Customers traveled from surrounding areas, forming a waiting line stretching roughly 400 meters across four city blocks.
Long queues continued on May 30 and 31.
The opening ceremony was attended by Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo and city council members.
Among in-store attractions, the Skin Scan Zone, which offers skin analysis services, and The Beauty Lab, which provides personalized skincare consultations, proved especially popular with local consumers.
By product category, skincare items -- including sun care products, sheet masks and cleansers -- accounted for more than 60 percent of total sales. Makeup products such as lip cosmetics and cushion foundations followed.
Lee Sun-jung, chief executive officer of CJ Olive Young, said the company aims to move beyond attracting overseas visitors to its stores in Korea and instead bring Olive Young directly into major global markets.
"Global customers will no longer need to come to Korea to experience Olive Young," Lee said. "We want Olive Young itself to enter key markets around the world and become part of local consumers' everyday lives."
