SEOUL, April 25 (Yonhap) -- Mokpo city, South Jeolla Province, announced on the 25th that it would open the "Hall of Mokpo popular music," using the Former Honam Bank, Mokpo Branch building in July.
The city purchased the Former Honam Bank, Mokpo Branch last year and completed the restoration work.
After many reviews, meetings, and field investigations by experts from various fields including the Cultural Heritage Administration, the contents of the "Hall of Mokpo popular music" was prepared.
The city explained that they focused on an open space that preserves the architectural prototype.
The first floor will not have any exhibits in order to enhance the openness and the characteristics of the only modern financial building in Mokpo while also conveying the symbolism of a pure national capital bank established by Honam people.
Through the latest media art that has never been in Mokpo, new attractions are introduced along with planned exhibitions, small-scale events, and conferences have also become available.
The theme of the second floor showcases the special connection between Mokpo and Korean popular music.
More than 110 popular songs related to Mokpo have been produced including "Tears of Mokpo" by Lee Nan-young, and the first girl group, the Kim Sisters.
The city uses these as a material for people to watch and experience the stories and contents of popular music.
It also plans to pick an honorary popular musician every year and hold a variety of special exhibitions.
The new building will have a culture and resting space that will act as an anchor facility for the modern history and also have a modern history space center to provide convenience to the citizens and visitors.
