SEOUL, Feb. 28 (Yonhap) -- Traces of getting burned by a curling iron, a sense of humiliation crying out to stop, and a frustration that seems to be unable to stand up again while trampling on a dream. The perpetrators do not know the depth of the wounds left by this violence. So even after committing such a terrible sin, they are shameless.
The 9th and 10th episodes of the Netflix original series "The Glory" Part 2, which was first released to the media on Tuesday, show the confrontation between Moon Dong-eun (Song Hye-kyo) who calmly carries out revenge planned for a long time and Park Yeon-jin (Im Ji-yeon) who responds brazenly and viciously.
Dong-eun, who faces Yeon-jin, offers to turn herself in and apologize for past school violence, saying she will give her last chance. But Yeon-jin said, "I did nothing wrong. Not at all," replies sarcastically. Yeon-jin is confident that she can get out easily this time, just like in the past.
In front of Yeon-jin's slowly revealed reality, her confused husband Doyoung (Jung Sung-il) asks Yeon-jin what she did so wrong to Dong-eun, but Yeon-jin replies as if it was no big deal, asking back, "Do I have to do something wrong?" Even when Dong-eun's soul, which was broken because of her, is in front of her, Yeon-jin does not seem to feel any guilt.
Due to Yeon-jin's shamelessness, Dong-eun's private revenge is portrayed as the only alternative that the victim can choose. Yeon-jin's ridicule that the endings of "punitive justice" and "encouraging good and punishing evil" are not reasonable pushes Dong-eun into a vortex of revenge.
In part 1, Dong-eun's rough sketch for her revenge is embodied in part 2. The whereabouts of Son Myung-oh, who suddenly disappeared, and the secret of the death of victim Yoon So-hee, who was bullied before Dong-eun in the past, are slowly revealed. The point to watch is how carefully Dong-eun plans to reveal the truth and corrupt the perpetrators.
The cracks between the perpetrators who tacitly conceal the secrets widen. Lee Sa-rah (Kim Hieora), who is worried about being caught taking drugs, and Choi Hye-jeong (Cha Joo-young), who is about to marry a rich man, are busy finding their way to live, and Jeon Jae-joon (Park Sung-hoon) calculates to bring his daughter from Yeon-jin.
If the perpetrators' division is predicted, attention is also drawn to what choice Ha Do-young will make, who opened Pandora's Box containing Yeon-jin's past. Ha Do-young, who has money and power, is a powerful person who can determine the success or failure of revenge, but he raises questions while maintaining a state of not standing on either side.
Yeon-jin is also fighting back at Dong-eun's revenge, which tightens her throat. Attention is also drawn to what role Hyeon-nam (Yeom Hye-ran), Dong-eun's reliable helper, and Joo Yeo-jeong will play in the second half. In particular, Yeo-jeong determining to dance with a scalpel (surgical knife) that he held as a doctor faces Yeon-jin in a bleak atmosphere.
In addition, the time spent with Dong-eun reminds Yeo-jeong warmth and happiness of his lost daily life and makes him feel sad. However, it breaks the immersion of the play with a romantic atmosphere that seems to be somewhat out of place in the revenge play, such as the cozy yellow light in the tent and fondue dipping bread in soft melted cheese.
Part 2 is faster and tenser than Part 1 and drives the perpetrators to catastrophe. The punishment mentioned by writer Kim Eun-sook, who wrote the play, is expected to bring catharsis as Dong-eun’s revenge pours in the second half of the drama and she completes it.
"The Glory" is a 16-part series divided into parts 1 and 2, and part 2 (9-16 episodes) will be released on the 10th.
