SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Yonhap) -- The Korea Heritage Service (KHS) said Wednesday it will open the royal burial site of King Taejo, founder of the Joseon Dynasty (r. 1392–1398), to the public from Nov. 5 to 9, offering visitors a chance to enjoy autumn scenery while walking through the historic royal tomb.

The event will take place at Geonwolleung, located within the Donggureung Royal Tombs in Guri, Gyeonggi Province.

Geonwolleung is the only royal tomb among the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Joseon royal tombs to have its mound covered with silver grass, said to have been transplanted from King Taejo’s hometown of Hamheung according to his dying wish.

Guided tours will be offered twice daily, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., allowing participants to learn stories about the founding monarch and the historical value of the Joseon royal tombs.

Reservations open at 10 a.m. on Oct. 23 through the official website of the Royal Palaces and Tombs Center. Up to four people can register per booking, and each session will accommodate 20 visitors.
