SEOUL, Oct. 1 (Yonhap) -- The Korea Heritage Service and the Korea Heritage Agency said Thursday that the YouTube channel "K-Heritage Channel" has reached about 2.22 million subscribers.

The channel became the first YouTube account operated by a South Korean public institution to receive the Gold Play Button for surpassing 1 million subscribers in 2023, and its subscriber count topped 2 million last month.

Its ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) series vividly capturing the hands and sounds of intangible cultural heritage masters carrying on traditional practices, as well as its "K-Archive" videos produced in ultra-high-definition 8K, have proved particularly popular.

The Korea Heritage Service and the Korea Heritage Agency plan to release new videos this month.

The upcoming content includes "Intangible Heritage Dawn-seungja," featuring singer DAWN meeting intangible heritage masters, and "Capture Korea," in which actor and singer Yoon Doo-joon visits and introduces national heritage sites across the country.

"We will continue to fulfill the role of a public archive by faithfully preserving and documenting the original forms of national heritage while presenting diverse K-heritage content," Lee Gwi-young, president of the Korea Heritage Agency, said.

Launched in 2010, the "National Heritage Channel" is a YouTube account that offers high-quality videos covering Korea's cultural, intangible and natural heritage. It is operated with funds from the national lottery.
