SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Yonhap) -- Nanta, a non-verbal performance that is considered the origin of the Korean Wave within the performance industry, will be returning back on the stage of Broadway in U.S. for the first time in 19 years.
PMC Production, who is responsible for the production of “Nanta” announced their return to the stages of Broadway on Saturday.
Nanta, the first non-verbal play in Korea, which debuted in 1997, later led the Korean Wave within the performance industry by going on tours and performing in 318 different cities in 58 countries.
Audiences regardless of their nationalities consistently showed their love towards” Nanta” which uses kitchen knives, cutting boards, plates and more kitchen utensils to create a powerful performance of “Samul Nori” a Korean traditional music genre.
In September of 2003 “Nanta” has become the first South Korean domestic performance to hit the stage in Broadway.
“Nanta” team will return to the stages of Broadway by kicking off their first show at New Victory Theater which was their first theater they have ever performed in Broadway back in 2003.
“Nanta” which had stopped its performance for 21 months due to the outbreak of COVID-19 has re-opened their Myeongdong Theater in December of 2021 and performed for a month.
From July 8, “Nanta” will return to the stage through open run performances every week at Nanta Theater in Myeongdong.
