SEOUL, March 13 (Yonhap) -- Actor Kim Soo-hyun will clarify his position on allegations he was in a romantic relationship with late actress Kim Sae-ron when she was underage, his agency said Thursday.

Kim has recently been at the center of the escalating controversy despite his agency's denial of the allegations.

"He'll unveil his position next week, based on clear grounds, in order to correct the facts and respond to groundless rumors," Kim Soo-hyun's talent agency, Gold Medalist, stated.

However, the agency did not specify how, when or where he would make his statement.

The agency also apologized for causing public fatigue with the prolonged scandal.

The controversy began Monday when the YouTube channel Hoverlab claimed, citing a telephone interview with Kim Sae-ron's bereaved family, that the two had been seeing each other for six years, starting when she was 15. The claim sent shock waves through the entertainment industry, potentially damaging the actor's image.

Kim Sae-ron, star of the hit films "The Man from Nowhere" and "The Neighbors," was found dead at her home last month. She was 24.

Shortly after Hoverlab's claim, Kim's agency strongly denied the allegations, calling them "completely false" and warning of the "strongest possible legal action."

Speculation has intensified, however, when Hoverlab released a photo showing Kim Soo-hyun kissing Kim Sae-ron on the cheek, as well as letters she allegedly received from him in 2018 and 2019. The letters contained a nickname and expressions of affection that appeared to refer to Kim Sae-ron.

The growing scandal is already affecting TV shows and commercials featuring Kim. Viewers are calling on MBC's variety show "Good Day," hosted by K-pop icon G-Dragon, to drop him from its lineup.

Asked whether Kim plans to skip the show's filming or leave the program, a source familiar with the matter said only, "We're currently trying to confirm this."
