SEOUL, July 27 (Yonhap) -- "Tropic," a short film produced by the Art & Technology Lab (AT Lab) under the Center for Arts and Technologies at the Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts), has won the Best Cinematography Award in the international short film competition at the 30th Fantasia International Film Festival, the university said Monday.

 

The Fantasia International Film Festival, held in Montreal, Canada, is one of North America's leading genre film festivals showcasing fresh and innovative works. This year's festival opened on July 16 (local time) and runs through Aug. 2.

 

"Tropic" follows Sun, the protagonist haunted by nightmares about her older sister's tragic suicide, as she becomes trapped in a space where the boundaries between reality and memory begin to blur.

 

The film was selected through a competition jointly organized in 2023 by K-Arts' AT Lab, a creative research institute dedicated to integrating science and the arts, and content production company VA Corporation.

 

Director Park Jeong-yoon, a student in the School of Film, TV & Multimedia's Department of Multimedia at K-Arts, said he was "deeply honored and delighted" to receive the award.

 

"It was even more meaningful to experience such a warm response from audiences at the festival," he said.
