SEOUL, March 28 (Yonhap) -- Even before her debut, Jang Da-a, the older sister of popular idol Jang Won-young, has attracted considerable attention.

Among idol fans, she was already known as 'Jang Won-young's sister who is prettier than Jang Won-young,' with eyewitness accounts and real-life reviews circulating about her.

With the news of Jang Da-a's debut as an actress, public interest intensified even more. Jang Da-a, burdened with expectations and attention from people, stated, "I never wished to be known as 'Jang Won-young's sister.'"

To commemorate the final episode of her debut work, the web drama 'Pyramid Game,' Jang Da-a, seated at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, on the 28th, expressed her desire to eventually shake off the label that currently follows her and stand alone as an actress.

She said, "I've dreamed of becoming an actress since middle school," and clarified, "My sister's influence didn't play a part in my decision to debut in the entertainment industry."

"We're just ordinary 'real sisters.' (laughs) Although we both work in the entertainment industry, we are each pursuing our own dreams in different fields," she added.

Jang Da-a secured the lead role right from her debut through two auditions.

Reflecting on her acting career, Jang Da-a said, "I tried not to be conscious of public attention or scrutiny while acting and focused on not straying from the essence of acting. I tried to concentrate as much as possible on reaching the goals I set for myself."

In 'Pyramid Game,' Jang Da-a played the role of Baek Ha-rin, a granddaughter of a conglomerate family. Ha-rin is a character who meticulously designs a monthly vote to determine the hierarchy within the class, dominating the top tier each time she receives the most votes.

Jang Da-a commented, "I think Ha-rin's biggest characteristic is her duality," adding, "The goal was to make Ha-rin seem psycho-like."

"I studied the most about expressing emotions and depicting Ha-rin's composure. I wanted to show the character's emotional trajectory through momentary expressions and subtly changing eye expressions," she explained.

In the drama, Ha-rin clashes with transfer student Sung Soo-ji (played by Kim Ji-yeon) as they engage in a fierce mental battle to break the pyramid game.

Jang Da-a remarked, "There were similarities between Ha-rin and me as well," and pointed out, "Such as the character's strategic nature and unwavering firmness."

After gaining recognition for her intense villainous acting, Jang Da-a expressed her desire to portray a character in her next project that is slightly more similar to herself.

"I want to try playing a character who is assertive yet lively and has a quirky charm. Can't I better highlight my own color?" she said with a smile.
