SEOUL, August 11(Yonhap) -- The 2022 Boryeong Sea Mud Expo, which is coming to an end, is about to exceed 1 million visitors.

According to Boryeong city, South Chungcheong Province on Thursday, the number of visitors to the expo, which opened on July 16, was 974,248 until the previous day.

The city expects to achieve its goal of 1.2 million people by the closing date on July 16.

The expo, the first maritime-related international event in the West Coast region, was held along with the 25th Boryeong Mud Festival. Many visitors continued to visit the place despite adverse conditions including the sweltering heat, re-emergence of COVID-19, and the last-minute torrential rain.

South Chungcheong province, Boryeong city, and the organizing committee hosted various national events during the expo, and prepared attractions, experience programs and various performances to raise the mood.

"The Mud Expo has eventually come to an end," said mayor Kim Dong-il. "As various events including the closing performance, are prepared for the rest of the period, please come and visit."
