SEOUL, June 25 (Yonhap) -- A village festival bringing together residents, surfers and tourists will be held next month in Hyeonnam-myeon, home to one of Yangyang County's best-known surfing destinations.

The Yangyang County Agricultural Technology Center said Thursday it will hold the Hyeonnam Lifestyle Festival for two days from July 4-5 at Jukdo Beach and Bukbunri Beach as part of its rural community revitalization project.

Unlike conventional performance-centered events, the festival is designed to turn the entire village into a venue where local residents, the surfing community and visitors can naturally interact.

Programs will be divided between Jukdo Beach, which will focus on activities, and Bukbunri Beach, which will feature nature-oriented and stay-based experiences.

Visitors will also be able to explore the scenery and local businesses of the Ingu and Dongsan villages while traveling between the two beaches.

At Jukdo Beach, sports experience programs covering seven disciplines -- surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, land surfing, bouldering, barrel training, Hyrox and running -- will be offered from 10 a.m. on July 4.

A live band performance titled "Surfer's Night" will take place at 7 p.m. the same day, followed by a fireworks show over the sea at 9 p.m.

At Bukbunri Beach, participants will be invited to share food they bring themselves during the "Sunset Beach Table" program held on the sandy shore at sunset.

The program is intended to serve as a signature exchange event where local residents and surfers can interact naturally.

Other activities include local cooking classes featuring recipes from village elders, as well as healing programs such as yoga and nature mandala workshops.

The county will also operate programs linked to the festival to promote cooperation among Jukdo Beach, the Bukbunri campground and commercial districts in Ingu and Dongsan.

Events involving local businesses, travel certification programs and coupon booklets will encourage visitors to spend money in the area and help boost nearby commercial districts.

Admission is free, although some experience programs will require advance reservations or on-site registration.

"The festival represents an expansion of the bonds built among young people and residents through the Hyeonnam Lifestyle project into a village-wide celebration," Hwang Byung-gil, head of the county's Agricultural Technology Center, said. "We will make every effort to help visitors experience Hyeonnam's nature and people in depth and encourage them to build lasting ties with the community."
