SEOUL, March 31 (Yonhap) -- A civilian organization in Suncheon was organized on the 30th to reclaim the ear and nose tombs of the ancestors of Korea that were taken by the Japanese during the Imjin War and Jeongyu-jaeran (Japanese invasions of Korea).

The department leading the recollection of the ear tombs marked its opening at the Suncheon Culture & Arts Center this afternoon.

The ceremony began by viewing the video of the tomb, to the guest congratulatory speech and the appointment of the advisors.

The tomb was created in mainland Japan when Toyomoti Hideyoshi, who caused the Japanese invasions of Korea, ordered his soldiers to cut off the ears and noses of the Joseon soldiers and civilians as a prize during the Jeongyu-jaeran.

These tombs were found in 5 different places in Japan including Bizen City in Okayama, Tsuyama, Tsushima and Fukuoka.

In Suncheon, there is the Suncheon Waeseong, also known as Suncheon Castle, where the last battle took place during the Jeongyu-jaeran.

The department leading the recollection of the ear tombs plans to bury these tombs in Peace Park built in Haeryong-myeon last year.

To add on, various activities including publishing, finding additional tombs, and lectures are planned in order to spread the historical pain of these ear tombs.
