SEOUL, May 30 (Yonhap) -- “I tried my best to show various vocal styles and spectrum. I attempted to show a calm low tone and also a more dynamic vocal.”

“Just like the title, I hope my album can have a ‘lucky charm’ effect on the listeners’ lives,” said singer Moon Su-jin, at the media showcase in Gangnam District, Seoul, hosted to celebrate the release of her first EP “Lucky Charms!” on Monday.

This album consists of 6 colorful songs including the title song “Right Back,” an alternative pop genre “Nundongja,” a combination of minimal band sound and addictive melody “Fade Away,” and an alternative disco track “Sometimes.” Moon participated in the writing, composition, and chorus vocals of all the songs.

Moreover, Karencici, a Taiwanese-American singer-songwriter, and Miso and Tabber have featured on the album.

Moon explained, “I had many self-written songs while preparing this album for a long time. I put the tracks that I’ve most listened to in the EP,” adding, “It took a process of trial and error to create the songs into the final version because they were made a while back and needed edits in the arrangements.”

Moon said, “Like the end of the first track and the beginning of the second track, I focused on how the end and the beginning go well together,” adding, “Rather than just speeding up, there are parts where it gets calm and points where it burns again. I emphasized the up and down in the album and created the structure.”

The title track “Right Back” is a song about waiting for the person who looks elsewhere. The large portion of English lyrics in the song is noticeable.

Moon said, “Since it is a dancehall music, I hope you can dance to the rhythm while listening to the song,” adding, “I’ve never danced in a music video, but this time, I have dance moves. I want to try a dance challenge with the choreography.”

“I don’t usually think about using more Korean or English,” adding, “I focus on how the melodies and the rhythm can be heard well. I added a lot of English (lyrics) because I thought the theme of the song would go well with the language naturally.”

Moon debuted in October 2018 and showed her unique vocals and trendy music through “MILLION,” “Day n Nite,” and “2NIGHT.” Last year, she grabbed the viewers’ attention after appearing in JTBC’s “Superband 2.”

Moon said, “I thought an album needed a theme or a narrative, but so far, I couldn’t think of a song to tie it up. That’s why I released singles,” adding, “Since it has been a while since I debuted, I thought I should make an album, so from my songs, I found some tracks to connect.”

“I know this can seem cliche, but I want to be called a unique and unreplaceable artist. I want to be a singer who holds the reason why a country should pay attention to an artist.”
