SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Yonhap) --

Sibling duo AKMU will leave YG Entertainment after 12 years with the company, the agency said Friday.

YG stated, “After much deliberation, AKMU has decided to pursue a new path. We extend our deep gratitude to them for the remarkable music and touching moments they have given us over the years.”

According to YG, AKMU informed executive producer Yang Hyun-suk six months ago of their intention to depart and become independent, and Yang expressed his full support and encouragement for the duo.

AKMU, who signed with YG after winning the audition program “K-pop Star Season 2” in 2013, has released numerous hit songs under the label over the past 12 years, including “200%” and “How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You’re the One I Love.”

YG added, “It was a great joy for us to witness the growth of the sibling duo, who were filled with pure passion from the beginning. We sincerely support their new challenge.”
