SEOUL, June 9 (Yonhap) -- Kiaf Seoul, the country's largest art fair, will take place at COEX in southern Seoul from Sept. 2-6, organizers said Tuesday.

 

According to the Korea Galleries Association, which hosts the event, a total of 175 galleries from 18 countries will participate in this year's fair, marking its 25th anniversary, and present works spanning a wide range of artistic genres.

 

Leading South Korean galleries, including Gallery Hyundai, Kukje Gallery, Gana Art, Sun Gallery, Pyo Gallery, Johyun Gallery, Wooson Gallery, Hakgojae and Arario Gallery, will be joined by overseas galleries such as Whitestone Gallery of Hong Kong, Art of the World Gallery of Houston in the United States and Kornfeld Galerie of Berlin, Germany.

 

Among the participants, 20 galleries will make their Kiaf debut. They include 15 overseas galleries, such as Nino Mier Gallery of the United States, Anna Nova Gallery of Russia and JD Malat of Britain, as well as five Korean galleries, including Gallery Hesed, Headvi Gallery and Hori Art Space.

 

This year, designer Chung Ku-ho has been appointed overall director, overseeing exhibition design, branding and special exhibitions. It marks the first time Kiaf has selected an external creative director outside the association.

 

Chung said he plans to redesign visitor circulation and strengthen spatial presentation to provide a more immersive viewing experience.

 

The fair will feature its main section, Kiaf Galleries, along with Kiaf Plus, which introduces emerging artists and galleries, and Solo Booths, a section dedicated to showcasing the work of individual artists.

 

Lee Sung-hoon, chairman of the Kiaf organizing committee and president of the Korea Galleries Association, said the event will continue to strengthen its position as an international platform bringing together leading global galleries and major Korean art dealers to explore diverse trends and possibilities in contemporary art.
