SEOUL July 5 (Yonhap) -- K-pop group The Boyz was appointed the honorary ambassador to promote Korean culture around the world, cultural ministry said on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism dubbed the 11-member act as this year's honorary global ambassador for Korean Culture at KOCIS Center in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The ministry's Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS) live-broadcast the appointment ceremony on the Koreanet YouTube Channel of Korean Culture and Information Service (www.youtube.com/user/GatewaytoKorea). Some 20 K-influencers and honorary reporters of Koreanet also attended the event and spread the scene on social media.
Debuting in 2017, The Boyz have gained popularity both domestically and internationally with hit songs such as "Thrill Ride," "Reveal," and "The Stealer."
The Boyz will participate in various activities to promote Korean culture and hallyu content worldwide, starting with the promotion of the "2023 International Content Competition," organized by the KOCIS.
This year's competition, themed "Let's Unveil the Diversity of Korea," will be held from the July 17 through Sept. 17, targeting foreigners aged 14 and older residing in Korea and abroad.
Submissions will be accepted through the official website (talktalkkorea.or.kr) for each sub-theme, including music, culture, beauty, and fashion, during different periods. The special theme, which focuses on promoting Korea, will be open for submissions throughout the entire competition period.
Since 2014, the KOCIS has selected K-pop groups as its K-culture ambassadors every year. Previously, K-pop groups such as ZE:A, CNBLUE, BTS, EXO ChenBaekXi, Winner, Stray Kids, ATEEZ, LOONA, and CRAVITY have been active in this role.
