'Top Gun: Maverick' surpasses 3 million viewers in 12th day of release

SEOUL, July 3 (Yonhap) -- The Hollywood blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick” (hereinafter referred to as 'Top Gun 2') surpassed 3 million cumulative audiences on the morning of July 3, the 12th day of its release, according to distribution company Lotte Entertainment.

“Top Gun 2,” which was released on June 22, is becoming a long-term hit with the number of audiences not reducing even in the second week of its release. The number of spectators on Saturday was 480,290, which was higher than 472,328 on the Saturday of last month, right after the release.

“Top Gun 2” is the sequel to the movie “Top Gun” that was released in 1986 and was the movie that made Tom Cruise a Hollywood star. It depicts the story of Maverick, played by Tom Cruise, returning as an instructor to the U.S. Navy fighter pilot training school, which is where the movie mainly takes place.
