SEOUL, Nov. 14 (Yonhap) -- Japanese pop icon Seiko Matsuda, known for the hit song "Aoi Sangoshou" ("Blue Coral Reef"), will hold her first concert in South Korea on Feb. 22 next year at Inspire Arena on Yeongjong Island in Incheon, the venue’s operator said Friday.
According to Inspire Entertainment Resort, the event titled "Seiko Matsuda 45th Anniversary Concert Tour – Sing! Sing! Sing! in Korea" will be the seventh concert produced in-house by the resort.
Matsuda made her debut in 1980 with "Hadashi no Kisetsu" and went on to release a string of hit songs, including "Aoi Sangoshou," "Natsu no Tobira" and "Akai Sweet Pea," earning her the nickname “eternal idol.”
With her pure image and strong vocal talent, she gained wide popularity across Japan and the rest of Asia, becoming a cultural icon of the 1980s. Her signature hairstyle also sparked major trends during the era.
Between 1980 and 1988, Matsuda scored 24 consecutive No. 1 singles on Japan’s Oricon chart, and her cumulative album sales have reached nearly 30 million copies.
Her signature song "Aoi Sangoshou" drew renewed attention last year when Hanni of NewJeans performed it at the Tokyo Dome.
Matsuda is expected to showcase the highlights of her 45-year musical career through performances of her best-known hits during the anniversary tour.
