SEOUL, Apr. 5 (Yonhap) -- Starting from Jang Se-jin from “The Promise,” Kim Bit-na from “Still Loving You,” and Jo Sa-ra from “Young Lady and Gentleman.”

An interview was held with actress Park Ha-na (37), who turns her work into a popular drama with her villain roles, in a cafe in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

She said, "I've been criticized a lot," with a loud laugh. "These days, I was thankful because when there are hate comments, there are people who defend me and say, 'It’s because you’re good at acting, so don’t be upset and cheer up.’”

Park won the Excellent Actress award at the 2021 KBS Drama awards for playing Jo Sa-ra, who never hesitated to win her long-time crush Lee Young-guk (Ji Hyun-woo) and to regain her son in KBS 2TV's weekend drama “Young Lady and Gentleman.”

"Sa-ra was a character that I could embrace as much as I wanted," she said adding, "I loved and liked the role so much that I never hated it for a moment, and I was so grateful and happy to play such a character."

Park also said, "It was new because I had a deeper experience than the previous villains. If it wasn't for Sa-ra’s selfish greed, I thought she wasn't a bad person, and I felt sorry for her throughout the entire show."

"I think the viewers hated Sa-ra a little less because of how clumsy she was at making plans that could be seen by anyone. When I went to the market or restaurant, the ladies cheered me on, saying, ‘Meet someone like Cha Gun who likes you more than the chairman.’ (Laughs) But I still don't think I should lie that the pregnant baby is the chairman's child."

In the final episode, the viewers felt bad for Sa-ra, when her only relationship with her mother grew apart, and she left Korea after losing her child.

Park said, "I couldn't stop crying when I filmed the last scene of breaking up with Cha Gun," expressing her desire, "I hope Sa-ra realizes everything, reflects on herself, lives nicely, and finds true love."

As a memorable scene, Park picked the part when Sa-ra was thrown away by Lee Young-guk after all the lies were found out.

"I know it was Sa-ra’s fault but when he said, 'This woman is a madwoman,' and asked to chase her out immediately, it was tragic. It was freezing that day but I almost forgot the cold after being so driven in that scene.”

Park, who met Ji Hyun-woo again after the drama “Love in Sadness” and Kang Eun-tak with “Apgujeong Midnight Sun,” said, “The acting chemistry was good possibly because it was my second time.”

Especially with Ji, Park said, “I desperately acted in a love that I couldn't achieve in my previous work with him,” adding, “Next time, I want to come out with Ji as real-life brother and sister and show a strong chemistry.”

Having played an impressive villain several times, Park said, "In fact, hating someone, screaming at them, and committing atrocities is something I don’t do, so I get goosebumps and become ecstatic,” adding, “I'm willing to play a villain in my next work if there's a good reason behind it.”

However, she said, "Since I’m also a human being, I'm still afraid of being hated by someone."

"I think I’ve grown dull, but hate comments still hurt me. So I try not to look at it as much as possible, but I keep looking at it. (Laughs) Next time, I want to play a character in a sitcom or a romantic comedy that I can put myself down.”
