Spring flowers to bloom starting on March 13 in Jeju Island

SEOUL March 4 (Yonhap) -- Although the timing of various spring flowers bloom will vary depending on provinces, the blooming of various flowers within the spring season will start off with Rhododendron Mucronulatum also known as Korean Rhodoodendron, Forsythia, Cherry blossom and more.

Flowers will start to bloom on March 13 within Jeju Island and continue on through Gangwon Province’s Hwayaksan Mountain, followed by mountain sobaeksan mountain located North Chungcheong province on May, the timing of the bloom will vary depending on the location of the province.

As the time for spring flowers to bloom arrives, Korea Forest Service decided to release a map which indicates the expected date of blooming of various flowers and locations to witness the beauty on Saturday.

The map provided by the Korea Forest Service has been assorted based on the time and places to see the Korean Rhodoodendron and cherry blossoms because these are the ones which indicates the spring has come.

Various organizations starting with Korea Forest Service, National Institute of Forest Science, and various other Korea National Arboretum and the map withholds total of 15 various provinces and National Arboretums throughout the country.

Moreover, Forsythia will be showcased at the Wando Arboretum on March 20, followed by Gyeongnam Arboretum on 23, Halla Arboretum on 23, arboretums located within the southern part of South Korea will decorate the kick off of spring with various flowers.

Cherry Blossoms are expected to bloom starting on April 1 within Jeju Island area, followed by Gwangdeoksan Mountain in Gangwon province on April 30, and more, which is little bit late compare to its bloom in the past.

General Manager Kim Ki-hyun addressed “Based on the field data, collected base on the various locations known for habiting representative trees, we plan to increase the accuracy of the data and provide useful services to people’s lives.”
