SEOUL, June 30 (Yonhap) -- Keyveatz, the first girl group from hip-hop label AOMG, officially debuted on Tuesday with their debut mini album OXY_GEN.
At their debut showcase held in Seoul's Seodaemun District, the group said they aim to bridge subculture and mainstream culture by showcasing not only hip-hop but a wide range of musical styles.
Keyveatz is a five-member group consisting of Yui, Kang Yeseul, Eom Jiwon, Son Juwon, and Kim Yuna. The group describes itself as a "girl crew" inspired by hip-hop and underground culture.
Member Kim Yuna explained, "A crew isn't defined by a concept but by attitude. We want to build an unpredictable identity and style rooted in subculture and underground culture."
The group's name combines "Key" and "Kibitz," reflecting their ambition to become a key force in creating new trends while reading the scene and making bold moves.
When asked what kind of impact the rookie group hopes to make, Kang Yeseul answered, "First, our musicality; second, our artistic identity; and third, our visuals."
Yui added, "Keyveatz itself will be our statement. We want to create a new wave with everything we bring."
The album title OXY_GEN combines "OXY" (oxygen) and "GEN" (generation), symbolizing the members' determination to keep moving, challenging themselves, and creating their own path as a new generation.
The five-track release includes the title song "OXY," the hip-hop track "Key Beats," which introduces the group's identity, "Catch My Breath," highlighting the members' confidence and presence, "SUB_ZERO," featuring labelmate Punchnello, and "SUCK IT UP," which expresses perseverance through pressure and competition.
"OXY" blends various hip-hop sounds into an explosive, high-energy track characterized by rapid progression and powerful rhythms.
"We aspire to be an all-rounder group capable of vocals, dance, and rap," the members said. "The performance is a major highlight of 'OXY,' so we hope people pay close attention to it."
Leader Son Juwon said, "Standing on our official debut stage is both exciting and nerve-racking. We've worked hard for a long time to get here, and we hope people will continue supporting us."
As for their goals, the members said they hope to win first place on Korean music shows and establish a distinct identity of their own.
Kang Yeseul concluded, "We want to become an iconic group. We hope our identity becomes so distinctive that we can inspire others."
