SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Yonhap) – South Korean creative musical “Red Book” will be staged at the Grand theater of the Hongik Art Center in Seoul from Mar. 14 to May 28, the production company Ateod announced Friday.

With South Korean veteran musical actress Ok Joo-hyun joining the cast crew, a total of three high-spirited and feisty actresses will appear in the musical as Anna.

Ok Joo-hyun, who has been slated to play the lead in the greatest musical theatre productions including “Elisabeth,” “Rebecca,” “Mata Hari,” and “Beethoven,” will play the role of Anna, along with Park Jin-joo and MIn Kyung-ah. The three actresses will be playing Anna, an aspiring writer who fights against female oppression and develops her dream of becoming a writer.

Park Jin-joo, who is known for her appearances in several hit South Korean movies including “Sunny” and “Hero,” will be on the musical stage for the first time in 10 years.

Song Won-geun, Shin Sung-min, and Kim Sung-kyu will be taking the role of “Brown,” a mystical gentleman who mysteriously appears in front of Anna.

The musical “Red Book,” written and illustrated in 2016 at the Performing Arts Creation Room of the Arts Council Korea, was created by the hands of South Korean playwright Han Jung-seok, Director Park So-young, and Composer Lee Sun-young. Playwright Han is known for writing several eye-catching musicals such as “Goddess Is Watching” and “Showman – a dictator’s fourth substitute actor.”

Set in London in the 19th century, “Red Book” will depict the friendship of Anna, an enterprising woman, and Brown, a mysterious gentleman who appears before her.

The Musical won four awards, including Best Director and Best Picture, at the Korea Musical Awards last year. After it was first staged in 2018, the Musical will be returning to the theatre stage once again a year and a half after its latest performance in 2021.
