SEOUL, Mar. 6 (Yonhap) -- Hollywood blockbuster "Avatar: The Way of Water" (Avatar 2) has ranked second in global box office history in Korea.
According to the U.S. entertainment media Deadline on the 5th (local time), director James Cameron's "Avatar 2" recorded $2.82 billion (KRW 3.668 trillion) in global cumulative box office profits.
As a result, "Avatar 2" has surpassed Marvel's "Avengers: End Game" ($2.79 billion) and ranked second in the box office.
It also narrowed the gap with Cameron's "Avatar" ($2.92 billion), the world's No. 1 box office in history, to $100 million.
Avatar 2 recorded sales of $670 million in the United States, as well as high box office success in China ($245.3 million) and France ($151.6 million). It also recorded sales of more than $100 million ($17.9 million) in Korea.
However, the box office ranking in the U.S. fell to sixth place this week. This is the first time it has been pushed out of the top five since its release in December last year.
The boxing film "Creed 3," which is directed and starred by Michael B. Jordan, topped the box office with $58.7 million in sales in the first week of its release.
The Rocky series “Creed 3” is also on screen in Korea.
