BUSAN, Dec. 1 (Yonhap) -- After Kwon Min-ah, a former member of girl group AOA, revealed she had been sexually assaulted, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency started an official investigation. On Wednesday, the police announced to have handed over the case to the prosecution for trial.

Earlier this year, the police filed Kwon's complaint and started investigating the alleged perpetrator, known to be a man in his 20s, on charges of rape.

Kwon, who was born in Busan, previously mentioned that she was sexually assaulted by an older male student after following a friend to an unknown place.

"Although the crime was committed in 2007, we were able to confirm the crime after thoroughly investigating related people at the time," a police official explained.

On Wednesday, Kwon posted more explanation related to the case on Instagram.

"It's been 15 years since it happened and I was so close to giving up, but I'm really grateful to all the people who've helped me," Kwon said. "I hope this case doesn't end in vain and wish those who've committed the crime to be punished."
