SEOUL, Nov. 7 (Yonhap) -- Entertainer Park Soo-hong has been cleared of allegations that he blackmailed a food company executive, police said Friday.

 

According to police and Park’s legal representative, the Gangnam Police Station decided on Sept. 20 not to forward the case to prosecutors, ruling there was “no evidence of a crime.”

 

In a statement, Park’s side said, “This was an act intended to damage the reputation of a well-known celebrity and pressure him. It clearly constitutes a false accusation.” The statement added that they are considering legal action against those who defamed Park’s character.

 

Park is currently engaged in a legal dispute with the head of the food company who initially filed the blackmail complaint. The company had filed a separate civil suit against Park, claiming that his image was used in advertisements without authorization for over a year, seeking 5 billion won (US$3.6 million) in damages.
