Gyeongbokgung Palace to host ‘Starlight Night Trip’

SEOUL, September 1  (Yonhap) -- An event to walk around Gyeongbokgung Palace and try royal cuisine will be held for 10 days.

Royal Palaces and Tombs Center of Korea Cultural Heritage Administration and Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation announced on Thursday that “Gyeongbokgung palace Starlight Night Trip” will be held twice everyday from Sept. 15 to 25, except Sept. 20.

“Starlight Night Trip of Gyeongbokgung palace” along with “moonlight tours of Changdeok Palace” are the main events that tour the palace. Tourists can enjoy dinner and tour the north side of Gyeonbokgung palace at night.


Visitors first enjoy a Korean classical music while tasting royal table lunch box, which is a modern reinterpretation of the 12 sets of dishes king and queen ate made by 'Oesojubang', who made feasts during Joseon Dynasty.

After the meal, tourists tour Janggo, Jib-Ogjae, Pal-Ujeong, Gyeongbokgung palace, and Hyangwonjeong Pavilion with curators.


Tourists can listen to the stories of late Joseon Kingdom and Gojong while observing insdie of Janggo, Jib-Ogjae, and Pal-Ujeong which are hard to look usually.

Hyangwonjeong Pavilion, which finished its restoration last year, can also be enjoyed.

Hyangwonjeong, a pavilion located in the northern backyard, is considered one of the most beautiful tower in Gyeongbokgung palace. The name of the pavilion, 'Hyangwon' (香遠), means ‘fragrance that goes far'.

Royal Palaces and Tombs Center official said, “Hyangwonjeong, which boasts its beautiful figure especially at night, seen from Chwihyang bridge is one unique sight to see from the ‘Starlight Night Trip.’ event”

Starlight Night Trip starts at 6:40 p.m. and 7:40 p.m.

Up to 30 people can participate in each session, and participation fee is 60,000 won (55,000 won for limited concert view).

Reservations can be made at Interpark ticket (https://tickets.interpark.com). Reservation for Sept. 15- 19 will be first come first serve, while reservation for Sept. 21-25 will select tourists by lot.

People over 65 years old, disabled people, and men of national merit can make reservations by phone.

Each person can buy only up to two tickets.
