Boy group iKON to leave YG Entertainment

SEOUL December 30 (Yonhap) -- K-pop boy group IKON which consists of six members starting with Bobby, Jay, Ju-ne, Song, DK and Chan will be parting away with YG Entertainment.

According to the press released disclosed on Friday by YG Entertainment, “After a long discussion with all of the members, we have decided to part ways as the contractual period of IKON is coming to an end.”

“We would like to thank IKON for their hard work throughout the years they have spent with us,” adding “We will cheer for them despite of their future career path.” addressed YG Entertainment.

K-pop boy group IKON which kicked off their career with “My Type” in 2015 released number of hits such as “Rhythm Ta,” “Love Scenario,” “Killing Me,” and more creating huge fan base.

However, in 2019, main producer of the group, B.I was accused of drug related charges leading the entire team into a struggle. As a result, B.I was charged with three years in prison, with 4 years of probation, however the artist did not appeal so the sentence was confirmed on September of 2021.

Moreover, IKON’s member Bobby, disclosed his upcoming marriage a month before his fiancé’s was about to give birth to his child, surprising number of fans.

Bobby posted “I will be becoming a father, I am very happy but at the same time little bit nervous, I am very sorry for all the fans that will be surprised by such a sudden news,” adding “I would like to send out deepest apology to those who I might have hurt through such notice.” through his social media account.

IKON's decision to leave YG Entertainment followed the announcements that BIGBANG's Taeyang and Daesung had left the agency.

Taeyang transferred to The Black Label, an associate company of YG, while Daesung was seeking a new start after terminating his contract, according to the agency.

It also said it was in negotiations with team leader G-Dragon over signing him to a contract as a solo artist.
