SEOUL, Apr. 6 (Yonhap) -- Park Sang-young’s novel “Love in the Big City,” which was longlisted for the International Booker Prize 2022 that touts as Britain’s most prestigious literary award, will be adapted into a web series.

The novel will be produced into an eight-episode-long series of the same name, which is scheduled to be released on an online video streaming service next year.

The novel, which also is the first work made by Park that was published in English, follows the story of a budding gay writer Ko Young who gets to learn about life and love.

Along with the Booker Prize in 2022, the novel also received a nomination from the Dublin Literature Award this year. It was then translated and published in 15 countries, including the United Kingdom, Japan, and Germany.

Park has confirmed to participate in writing the scenario for the series in order to convey the charm of her original work, and four filmmakers will take the helm of each episode.

Director Huh Jin-ho, who has credits for producing “Christmas in August” and “One Fine Spring Day,” as well as director Hong Ji-yeong, who previously delivered “Will You Be There?” and “Marriage Blue,” director Son Tae-kyum who directed the Oscar-winning short film “Night Flight,” and budding director Kim Se-in will each be directing an episode.

South Korean-based production house Merry Christmas Studio has joined hands with BigStone Studio for this adaptation.
